I used the Labour TENS from the onset of contractions, through to epidural…... a period of about 16 hours. I used TENS in conjunction with gas, and later with pethidine.  I believe that using the TENS delayed the need for those other pain relief methods. The contractions were still felt, so the TENS did not eliminate the pain completely, but I believe it significantly lessened my pain response. The TENS, when activated during contractions, was a soothing sensation like an intense massage.
