Labour TENS was recommended to me by the Midwives at the Royal Women's Hospital in Randwick. After having to be induced, due to high blood pressure my contractions came on very strong with barely a break between. Although my labour was very short (1st stage = 3 hrs; 2nd stage = 1 hr…… first baby!) it was very intense and I found the TENS machine was brilliant for focusing my mind on the tingling sensation rather than the contractions. I started at a low setting and eventually reached 30 and it was comforting to know that I still had further to turn it up if I had wanted to.  I would definitely recommend the use of the TENS machine to anyone else as a way to effectively manage labour contractions along with calm breathing. I managed the whole labour without any pain relief or medications and found that I did not even think about their use due to the TENS machine. I was pleased to be able to have the experience of a natural birth and firmly believe that my daughter is a much calmer baby because of this.
