Labour TENS enabled me to have a totally natural birth, without any drugs

Published by under Birth stories

Labour TENS was recommended to me by the midwives at the hospital, and also by a friend.

The TENS machine was excellent. It arrived the day after ordering -the staff provided a good service. I found it highly effective in relieving the pain -its all I needed. Labour TENS enabled me to have a totally natural birth, without any drugs, or an epidural. This was an ideal outcome that has assisted me with a quick post birth recovery. We will be recommending the Labour TENS to all our friends!

I believe the Labour TENS assisted with my ability to cope as the endorphins where flowing.

A friend had used the Labour TENS during her labour and said it was great. It also was recommended during my antenatal classes. I used the TENS early in labour and found it was fantastic. My baby’s head was posterior and was causing quite a lot of back pain. I began throwing up and became dehydrated early in labour. I believe the Labour TENS assisted with my ability to cope as the endorphins were flowing and I managed to have a natural drug free birth. I didn’t need to go any higher than 20 when in rest mode -even during transition. I had heard comments that the disadvantage of some TENS was it was only useful for the early stage. Personally I didn’t need anything else for the second stage, so it fulfilled the purpose for me. I will be encouraging other women to use the Labour TENS as their pain relief during labour as it’s the best.

Thanks for your assistance.

Physiotherapist in ACT says "I thought the Labour TENS was great -it was my only pain relief and made the whole birth experience bearable.

My labour began at around 3.30am. I put the labour TENS on early and walked around -I couldn’t sit down. My contractions were 5 min’s apart and I had the Labour TENS on a low setting of 4 to start off with. I turned it up as I needed to and by the time I was in the second stage it was up to 24. I used active birthing techniques and walked around all through my labour. He was born at 11.50am with just the TENS for pain relief.

We have a Labour TENS at the women’s health unit at the hospital where I work as a physiotherapist. I usually teach women about the Labour TENS and let them try it out -so I was keen to try it myself. I found it was helpful for managing the pain and I didn’t even use gas. I was lucky, my baby was in a good position and I had a natural birth with no intervention. I spent a lot of time counting to keep me focused moved around as lot and squatted in the second stage. The Labour TENS was much better than no pain relief and made the whole experience bearable. I was very relieved when it was over and we now have a beautiful boy.
