Just wanted to ask a question. Before application of the labour tens is it better to wipe the area with the alcohol swabs or there is nothing we need to do.

ANSWER: Thanks for the email. Good question. I don’t think it’s necessary as long as your skin is clean, dry and has no products on it. You only need to use an alcohol swab if the skin is greasy or has products/oils on it. After all alcohol swabs are not good for your skin and can cause more problems. It’s best just to wash if needed with a mild soap.

Labour TENS was recommended to me by the midwives at the hospital. I ordered online as it was easiest. I found the TENS was great for the beginning and middle stages of labour. I found it easy to use and helpful- especially when I used it with gas. I found it a good distraction and I would definitely use it again. I found the labour TENS very helpful. It was easy to use, and very good value for money. This was my first baby and I didn’t know what to expect. The machine made me feel like I was able to do something about the pain; i.e pressing the boost button. My labour progressed quicker than I expected so I only used gas towards the end.

The Labour TENS machine was good for relieving the pain, I didn’t need anything else. I used it at the start of labour and it really took the edge off the contractions. I don’t think anything else would’ve helped during those intense contractions further on in the labour. It was also a great relief for the after pains following birth.
